The Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen visits Latvia

On 31 March 2022 the Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen visited Latvia as part of a two-day visit to all three Baltic States. During the visit in Latvia, the Prime Minister met with Latvian Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš to discuss the security situation in the region, and the united response to Russia´´  s unjustified war in Ukraine. The Danish Prime Minister also informed about plans for Denmark to deploy extra 800 Danish military troops in Latvia. “I am pleased that our two countries have a broad consensus on many challenges in Europe and that we are so united in our commitment to peace and democracy in our part of the world”, said the Danish Prime Minister.

After their meeting, the two prime ministers visited together Ādaži military base where they were received by Base Commander col. Sandris Gaugers and the Commander of Multi National Division North, gen.maj. Flemming Mathiasen. The Prime Minister met with the Danish contingent at MND N to thank them for efforts and commitment to regional stability and security in the Baltic Sea region.

On the visit, the Danish Prime Minister was accompanied by the four other party leaders behind the recent national comprise on Danish Security- and Defence policy. The party leaders had a meeting with NATO Stratcom Centre of Excellence director Jānis Sārts.
