Great Taste Zero Waste

Great Taste Zero Waste

This week, the Danish Embassy was happy to host the event “Great Taste Zero Waste” to put spotlight on food waste reduction and sustainable food practices within the restaurant and food sector.

The Danish social enterprise Rub&Stub led a masterclasse for chefs and kitchen professionals to share Danish expertise and demonstrate a waste-free approach to cooking and eating. The Danish Ambassador to Latvia, Flemming Stender, addressed the participants and emphasized the importance of the reduction of food waste both professionally and in households. He handed over prizes for the winning team of the masterclass.

Rub&Stub also conducted a gourmet dinner experience to show that there does not have to be any discrepancy between fine dining, high quality food and zero waste.

The masterclass was followed by a seminar with experts and stakeholders from the Baltic Sea Region working in the fields of gastronomy, food and waste reduction.

There was a great interest of the whole Great Taste Zero Waste event by restaurant chefs and cooks as well as experts who work in food waste reduction sector in the Baltic states, Poland, and Nordic states.

The events were organized by Embassy in cooperation with Danish Culture Institute and the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia.

Due to the state-of-emergency in Latvia which took effect same week, the event had to be done in compliance with new stricter covid19 restrictions.

The events were financed by Culinary Diplomacy fund.
